My First K-Beauty Makeover: Before & After Photos, a Korean Podcast, and My New Amazon Author Page
저는 최근에 JEI TV Korean의 ‘도란도란 한국어 팟캐스트’에 게스트로 초대돼 한 에피소드를 촬영하고 왔어요. 이 에피소드는 7월 말에 공개될 거예요.
I recently joined JEI TV Korean's Doran Doran Korean Podcast as a guest. The episode will be released in late July.
그런데 촬영 전에 친구들이 제 얼굴을 보고 "너 절대로 그냥 가면 안 된다. 죽을 때 후회한다."라고 하더라고요. 😂 그래서 태어나서 처음으로 메이크업 & 헤어 전문숍에 갔어요.
Before the filming, though, my friends took one look at my face and said, "You absolutely cannot show up like that. You'll regret it on your deathbed." So, for the first time in my life, I went to a professional makeup & hair salon.
정말 놀랐어요. 메이크업만 한 시간이 걸렸어요. 그런데 그게 끝이 아니었어요. I was amazed. The makeup alone took an entire hour. And that wasn't even the end.
이번에는 머리를 했는데, 포니테일 하나 하는 데 40분이 걸렸어요. 저는 머리 묶는 데 이렇게 많은 시간과 노력이 필요한지 처음 알았어요. Then it was time for my hair. It took another 40 minutes just to style a ponytail. I had no idea a simple ponytail could take so much time and effort.

결과를 보니 왜 친구들이 전문가의 도움을 받으라고 했는지 알겠더라고요. 저도 많이 놀랐어요. K-뷰티의 힘은 이렇게 강력합니다!
When I saw the final result, I completely understood why my friends insisted I get professional help. Even I was surprised. The power of K-beauty is real!
제 조카는 제 애프터 사진을 보자마자 “누구세요?”라고 했어요. 😭 My nephew looked at the after photo and immediately asked, "who is this person?"
'오늘밖에 이런 얼굴은 없겠다!'라는 생각이 들어서 프로필 사진도 새로 찍었어요. 손에 연필을 쥔 포즈 어때요? 작가 분위기를 내고 싶었어요. ✏️😄
I figured, "I may never look like this again!" So I decided to get a new professional profile photo while I had the chance. What do you think of the pencil pose? I was going for an author look.

We talked about what I've learned from more than 19 years of localizing English into Korean for the Korean market, why I believe stories and illustrations are one of the best ways to learn Korean, and what inspired me to start ToonToon Korean.
