My Husband Says I’m Married to Someone Else…💔

며칠 전이었어요. 남편에게서 메시지가 왔어요.
It was a few days ago. I got a message from my husband.

마지막 메시지를 보고 달력을 봤어요.
After reading his last message, I checked the calendar.
그리고 남편의 농담을 그제야 이해했어요.
And that’s when I finally understood my his joke.
밸런타인데이가 이번 주 금요일인지 전혀 몰랐거든요.
I had no idea that Valentine’s Day was this Friday.
<나의 예비 형수님> 제2권을 출간하느라 엄청 바빴어요.
I was incredibly busy publishing My Future Sister-In-Law Volume 2.
그래서 시간 감각을 잃었어요. 출간일인 2월 19일 수요일만 기억하고 있었어요.
So I lost my sense of time. The only date I remembered was Wednesday February 19, the release day.
FYI, as you’ve probably noticed from our messages above, my husband and I mix English and Korean. He’s a native 🇺🇸 English speaker, and I’m a native 🇰🇷 Korean speaker.
We both speak each other’s mother tongue fluently, but at home, we get lazy and default to our own languages—as you can see in our conversation. 😆
I’ll share how he became fluent in Korean later—once I get his permission, of course! (He values his anonymity a lot.) His story will definitely motivate you! 💪 By the way, he was born and raised in the U.S. with zero ties to Korea.
다시 밸런타인데이 얘기로 돌아가서…
Back to the Valentine’s Day story…
남편은 제가 제 책이랑 결혼했다고 해요. 아래의 인스타그램 포스트 이미지를 보면 맞는 말이기도 합니다. 🤔
My husband says I’m married to my books. And if you look at the images from my Instagram post below, he might be right.

제 남편이 제 책을 싫어한다는 것은 사실이 아니예요.
But it’s not true that my husband dislikes my books.
제 남편은 지난 십여 년간 제가 영어로 만드는 모든 제품과 책을 감수해 줬어요.
My husband has reviewed every product and book I’ve created in English for over ten years.
We always aim for the most natural English in our translations, but after lots of discussion (and some heated debates 🔥😆), we find versions that sound natural while still preserving the structure, tone, and nuance of the original Korean. This way, you can better understand the Korean as you read! One example is the second sentence below.

아무튼 저는 제 남편 말고도 책이랑 결혼했으므로 미안한 마음에 초콜릿 아이스크림을 사 두었어요.
Anyway, since I’m married to both my husband and my books, I felt guilty and bought some chocolate ice cream for him.
이따가 남편이 회사에서 오면 줄 거예요.
I’ll give it to him when he gets home from work later.
