Half a year ago, something mysterious happened to me.

On Saturday, May 24th, I was chatting with my best friend, colleague, and editor, Hayoung. She told me about a fascinating Dutch novel she had just finished reading, called The Safekeep. She said she didnโt know much about the Netherlandsโ history, so she couldnโt predict how the story would unfold โ and that made it so much more enjoyable. Then she suggested that I try writing a story based on Korean history. She thought non-Korean readers would find it especially intriguing.

But nothing came to mind. So I said, โI canโt write something like that.โ I didn't feel good. Honestly, I had been wanting to start a new series after My Future Sister-In-Law, but I had no ideas โ especially none related to Korean history.

On Monday morning, May 26th, I woke up feeling sad for no reason. I had a headache, but I sat at my desk anyway. I wanted to write something, but nothing came to me. So I just sat there, staring at the wall for a long time.
๊ทธ๋ฐ๋ฐ ๊ฐ์๊ธฐ!!!
And then suddenly!!!

An image flashed vividly in my mind. The Joseon era, a woman, a man, and his wife! Ideas started pouring in all at once, as if someone were whispering the story directly to me. For the next three hours, I frantically wrote everything down. It was such a mysterious experience.

For the following months, I studied the Joseon era by watching films, dramas, and reading books. Then I started adding more details to the story I had โreceivedโ on May 26th.

And thatโs how the four-volume series The Moon Caught in the Pine Tree was born.

It was the first time a story had ever come to me like that. I still find it mysterious. Whatโs even more surprising is that I had never planned to write a historical romance novel before.

Anyway, Iโm thankful to whoever (or whatever?) gave me this story. Who could it beโฆ? The god of stories? The fairy of ideas? A ghost?
